Trainer Overview

SUFA is an evidence-informed training program that empowers individuals to recognize, respond to, and reduce stigma surrounding substance use.

SUFA trainers deliver engaging, inclusive, and compassionate workshops that help build healthier, more supportive communities. Trainers deliver the official SUFA curriculum live-virtually to community audiences across diverse sectors while maintaining fidelity to program content and values.

Steps to Become a SUFA Trainer

  1. Review the desired SUFA Trainer Qualifications and Key Responsibilities.

  2. Talk with your employer about becoming a trainer—many employers pay for employees’ training if they provide trainings to other employees, volunteers, or clients.

  3. Select a date and register to attend your two-day training—trainings are held monthly.

  4. Fill out your contact information and submit your payment of $1,950.

PARTICIPATION

Full participation is required throughout the train-the-trainer course. All participants are assessed on their level of engagement, demonstrated proficiency, and ability to understand and deliver the content. Completion of the training does not guarantee certification as a SUFA facilitator. Participant evaluations and feedback also inform ongoing certification.

ASSESSMENT

The assessment criteria include strong facilitation and communication skills, a clear understanding of SUFA’s mission and approach, a personal connection to substance use issues, the ability to model empathy and inclusivity, and a clear commitment to fidelity, confidentiality, and professionalism.

You can expect to spend up to 20 hours with the pre-work and live virtual training to become a SUFA-certified trainer. For more information on , click on SUFA Trainer FAQs here.
